VADUZ, Liechtenstein, Oct 2 (Reuters) - Liechtenstein's captain and most-capped player Harry Zech has ended his international career just days before a World Cup qualifier in the wake of an internal dispute at his country's football association.
Capped 36 times, Zech pulled out of his country's final
European group seven match against Bosnia on Sunday by
announcing his retirement from international soccer, the
Liechtenstein FA said on Tuesday.
A defender with Eschen-Mauren, Zech decided to end his
international career to protest against a bitter struggle within
the Liechtenstein FA that saw president Otto Biedermann replaced
by Markus Wanger.
Liechtenstein enter the contest still looking for their
first goal of the qualifying campaign.
The Liechtenstein defence has been fairly solid in recent
matches, losing just 2-0 to Spain and 1-0 to Austria, but coach
Ralf Looser will be hoping his young squad can find the back of
net for the first time in seven matches.
