Dumbarton and Hamilton both failed to move closer to the top of Division Two after a scrappy encounter ended in a 1-1 draw.
Referee Ian Frickleton endured a busy 90 minutes, booking nine players and sending Dumbarton's assistant manager Jim Denny away from the dugout.
Hamilton got off to an ideal start when Ian Dobbins fired home Jim Sherry's corner after 20 minutes but the hosts were level eight minutes later, Andy Brown pouncing to convert a cross with John Dillon.
Brown continued to torment the Hamilton defence, nodding another good effort just wide before the break and the Sons could have snatched a winner near the end but Graham Potter reacted brilliantly to save Mark Crilly's shot.
