Hamilton clinched the Scottish Third Division title with a convincing 4-1 victory at Montrose.

They took the lead after 41 minutes when David McFarlane scored with a first-time shot.

The visitors went 2-0 up in the 58th minute when McFarlane took advantage of a disastrous mix-up involving three Montrose defenders and prodded the ball home.

Montrose pulled a goal back after 61 minutes when Andy Hutchen raced through the heart of the Hamilton defence to score.

Hamilton made it 3-1 in the 73rd minute when McFarlane completed his hat-trick with a smart shot after cutting in from the left.

And the new champions completed the scoring 10 minutes from time when Michael Moore netted with a shot from a tight angle.
