Hamilton kept up their chase for promotion to Scottish Division Two with a narrow 1-0 win over struggling Albion at Cliftonhill.
But third-placed Hamilton were made to work hard for the three points and did not make the breakthrough until well into the second half when Stuart Callaghan dispatched a 73rd-minute penalty.
The deadlock should have been broken earlier when Albion's Jered Stirling fired in a free-kick which hit the defensive wall and rebounded to Colin Waldie, but his instinctive shot flew over the crossbar.
Hamilton could have taken the lead just after the hour mark when Robert Downs worked some magic on the edge of the penalty box and fired in a shot which home goalkeeper Chris Fahey brilliantly turned over for a corner.
