Cowdenbeath's lead at the top of Division Three was cut to one point after their 1-1 draw at home to promotion rivals Hamilton.
Brechin, who beat Montrose, moved ahead of Hamilton into second place.
But it could have been much worse for the home side after Stuart Callaghan fired Hamilton into an 18th-minute lead from the edge of the penalty area.
Cowdenbeath were stung into action and Toby King scored a priceless equaliser eight minutes later.
Mark Bradley collected the ball in midfield before releasing King, who coolly rounded Hamilton goalkeeper Ian McFarlane before placing the ball into the empty net.
