Brechin continued their quest for promotion witrh a hard-fought 1-0 win at East Stirling.

Brechin's Roddy Grant and Shire's Steven Hislop, with 22 goals between them this season, failed to make an impression, both sides' defences held well.

Only a lapse in concentration just short of the hour mark prevented the match ending goalless.

A Steven Raynes free-kick was flighted into the Shire box for Kevin Bain to head the game's only goal in 58 minutes.

Shire had their chances to take something from the game but always found the Brechin defence up to the task.

Once behind, they threw everything into attack but for all their efforts, the closest they came to an equaliser was when Gregor McKechnie had a 20-yard shot tipped over the bar by the Brechin keeper.
