Dundee United may have picked up their first Scottish Premier League win of the season on Saturday - but it was back to the same old story when they slumped to defeat against Kilmarnock tonight.
The Tannadice side looked like holding on for a point until Craig Dargo pounced six minutes from time to slot home an Andy McLaren pass from close range.
United had already suffered a massive setback when Jamie Fullarton was substituted with what appeared to be a broken his right leg.
The hosts enjoyed most of the possession in the opening stages.
After six minutes, Jamie Buchan burst through the middle and fed the ball to Stephen McConalogue in the 18-yard box - but Sean Hessey intercepted to clear before he could pull the trigger.
Four minutes later Kilmarnock had their first chance of the game. McLaren pounced when David Hannah lost possession and crossed to Paul Wright. The Killie striker had a go from a tight angle, but his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Alan Combe.
At the other end of the park Charlie Miller tried a long, low drive after 11 minutes but pulled his shot just wide.
Miller again caused problems for the Kilmarnock defence, this time bulleting a shot that cracked off the crossbar.
Two minutes later the home crowd were on their feet as Neil Heaney claimed he had been tripped in the box by Alan Mahood - but referee Kevin Toner waved play on.
Just before the half-hour Killie were denied the opener by Combe. Dargo's first-time shot looked net-bound until the goalkeeper somehow managed to tip the ball over the bar.
Eight minutes before the break, Miller tried to send a cross into the box but was blocked by goalkeeper Gordon Marshall before the ball could reach the on-rushing Beto Naveda in front of goal.
Ten minutes later a great move between Miller and Naveda almost provided United with the opener.
Miller went on a run before exchanging a neat one-two with the Argentinian but he could not get enough power behind the shot - and Marshall managed to hold the ball.
But on 65 minutes things took a sickening turn for the worse for United.
The game was held up for seven minutes when Fullarton needed treatment for a serious leg injury, and was eventually replaced by Venetis.
The breakthrough eventually came six minutes from time.
McLaren sent a low pass into the six-yard box, and Dargo was on hand to slot home from close range.
With seven minutes of injury time added on, United tried desperately to take something from the game.
Miller came close when he rounded two Kilmarnock players before unleashing a powerful shot that was only just turned round the post by the goalkeeper.
Naveda tried in vain to take the ball round Marshall on the goalline, but the Killie goalkeeper again managed to do the necessary.
