Troubled Airdrie finished a bad week at Alloa when they were beaten 2-0 by a well-organised side.
Terry Christie, the Alloa manager, made four changes to his side which produced this badly needed win.
It was veteran midfielder Willie Irvine who opened the scoring on 31 minutes when he steered home a fine pass from youngster Colin Nish.
Airdrie worked hard in an effort to gain an equaliser, but when substitute Ross Hamilton headed in the second goal in 78 minutes from a cross by Irvine, Alloa knew the victory was secure.
With their fans roaring them on, Airdrie battle to save the match, but the nearest they could come was when home captain Craig Valentine headed against his own bar in the closing minutes.
