Albion Rovers played for 77 minutes with just 10 men but held on for a 1-1 draw thanks mainly to goalkeeper Chris Fahey, who produced a string of brilliant saves to keep Hamilton at bay.
After a quiet start the match erupted in the 13th minute when Rovers' Chris Silvestro and Accies' Russ McLaren squared up to each other.
Silvestro was red-carded and McLaren somewhat fortunate to escape with just a booking.
In spite of their numerical disadvantage, Rovers took the lead after 37 minutes when Jamie McKenzie spotted visiting keeper Ian McFarlan off his line and floated his 40-yard free-kick past the helpless keeper.
Although Hamilton dominated for most of the second period it took them until six minutes from the end to draw level. Fahey was finally beaten when a Mark Nelson drive went in off the post.
