St Patrick's suffer Intertoto Cup loss

St Patrick's Athletic lost 2-0 away to Belgian club AA Gent in the Intertoto Cup second round first leg.

Patrick Dolan's side went down at the Jules Ottenstadion thanks to a brace from Greek striker Alexandros Kaklamanos.

In a match largely controlled by the home side Kaklamanos, the club's topscorer last season with 17 goals, opened the scoring for the Belgians after just eight minutes.

The 26-year-old front man out-jumped the visitors' defence to head in a cross from the right by Gunther Schepens.

Both sides had few clear opportunities to score and it was not until 11minutes from full-time that Gent added their second goal - Kaklamanos netting with a low shot following a goalmouth scramble.

A total of 2,937 supporters turned out to see the match, with just over 200 of those from Ireland.
