FC Nantes name Argentina's Marcos as new coach

PARIS, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Argentine Angel Marcos has been appointed coach of French first division club FC Nantes, the team management said on Friday.

Marcos takes over from Raynald Denoueix, who was sacked after a run of disappointing results during this year's league campaign.

FC Nantes, last year's French first division champions, have struggled since the beginning of the season and are now second from bottom on the standings, 25 points behind leaders Lens.

Marcos, a former FC Nantes player between 1971 and 1975, will face an uphill task in trying to prevent the French club from crashing into the second division.

The Argentine, 58, previously coached Lorient, the bottom-placed club in the French first division.

He will be replaced at Lorient by Yvon Pouliquen, technical director at the Strasbourg training centre.
