Craig Short has proved every bit value for money since joining Blackburn Rovers from Everton in a £1.7million deal in the summer of 1999.
Has been a rock at the heart of the Blackburn defence ever since, helping the club return to the Premiership for the 2001/02 season.
Started his career at Pickering Town before moving to Scarborough along with his brother, Chris. The pair then moved on to Notts County together, and although Craig would go on to bigger and better things his brother's career would be dogged by injury.
Craig, however, won a crack at the big time with a £2.5million move to Derby County in the summer of 1992. Played over 100 games for the Rams before moving to Everton for £2.4million in August 1995, again completing a century of appearances.
The advancing years have not really hampered the Bridlington-born defender, and Graeme Souness must be delighted with his contribution - even if he was signed by Brian Kidd!
Was gutted in February 2002, however, when he was forced to sit out the Worthington Cup final through suspension. That meant him missing out on a winners' medal - and he must surely think he will not get another chance to play in a showpiece final.
