Prove to be a shrewd bit of business by Sam Allardyce as Rickets is a striker who has earned a big reputation and also has youth on his side.

Made his name with the Saddlers, scoring 14 goals in 31 starts for the club before attracting interest from bigger clubs.

Started his Bolton career in impressive fashion, and throughout his first campaign was something of a supersub, netting 24 goals for the Trotters in his debut campaign.

Few believed he would be able to achieve such feats in the Premiership, but he immediately looked at home with the game's major stars, and by February 2002 had scored 15 goals - many against the big boys and including an impressive winning goal at Manchester United.

Many pundits were calling for Ricketts to be given his chance with England - he was also eligible for Jamaica - and it was in February when Sven Goran Eriksson gave him his debut.

Ricketts played the first half of the international friendly against Holland in the Amsterdam ArenA. He didn't particularly impress, but neither did he fail.

Will now be eager for more international chances, but his England debut came just as he was experiencing a loss of form.

He then fell out with Allardyce, meaning he played much of the remainder of the season from the bench. Still managed to net 15 goals in his debut Premiership season - and he didn't score after January 16.
