Christian Dailly
Club: West Ham United
Shirt Number: 7
Position: Defender
Date of Birth: October 23, 1973
Birthplace: Dundee
Height: 6' 0"
Weight: 12.12

Profile:

Dailly began his career north of the border with hometown club Dundee United back in the early 90s, carving out a reputation as a reliable defender.

Made more than 150 appearances at Tannadice before becoming one of Britain's first ever Bosman transfers when he joined Derby County in the summer of 1996.

Impressed immediately with the Rams and earned a £5.3million move to former Premiership champions Blackburn Rovers two years later.

Dailly's big price tag may have been a weight on him, as things didn't work out for him at Ewood Park, where Graeme Souness made it clear his wasn't part of his plans as soon as he took over as manager.

An accomplished defender who looks assured on his forays forward, he can play anywhere across the defence.

Came within an ace of being a Scotland hero forever more when David Seaman kept out his late header at Wembley in the Euro 2000 play-off in November 1999.

Eventually moved to West Ham United for £1.75million in January 2001 as Harry Redknapp's side beat off competition from Everton and Leicester City.

Dailly made 82 appearances in two and a half years at Ewood Park, scoring four goals coming up from the back.

Dailly said of the move: 'I must admit, I am angry and upset about the things that happened at Blackburn. But that made me train twice as hard so that if ever I was called upon I would be ready.

'My heart said West Ham, but I had to make sure my head said the same. My family are all closet West Ham fans I think; they all said 'wow' when they found out West Ham were in for me.'

Made his debut in a 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic. The dismissal of Redknapp at the end of the season must have caused him nightmares, but this time a change of management didn't affect his first team involvement.

Very much an integral part of Glenn Roeder's first team plans, Dailly had passed the 50 appearances mark by the end of the 2001/02 season - but was yet to get on the scoresheet for the Hammers.
