Gabriele Ambrosetti
Club: Chelsea
Shirt Number: 24
Position: Midfielder
Date of Birth: August 7, 1973
Birthplace: Varese, Italy
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 11.5

Profile:

A £3.5million signing from Vicenza, who played against Chelsea in the European Cup Winners' Cup semi-final in 1998.

Heralded by Vialli as the Italian answer to Ryan Giggs, the Italian failed tear up trees during 1999/2000 and that accolade looked very hollow indeed.

Quick and pacy, the Italian could do with showing some composure in penetrative positions.

After being unable to impress new Blues coach Claudio Ranieri, Ambrosetti joined Serie B side Piacenza on loan for the remainder of the season in October 2000.

Made only nine Premiership starts for Chelsea in 14 months before returning to his homeland.

Was back at Chelsea for pre-season training in July 2002, but with no squad number being given to the midfielder his future appears very bleak.

His chances were boosted in September 2002 when he was handed the number 24 shirt for the trip to Viking in the first round of the UEFA Cup.
