Mark Schwarzer
Club: Middlesbrough
Shirt Number: 1
Position: Goalkeeper
Date of Birth: October 6, 1972
Birthplace: Sydney, Australia
Height: 6' 5"
Weight: 15.5

Profile:

One of the best keepers in the Premiership, he started his career with Marconi, where Christian Vieri was a team mate, before joining Dynamo Dresden and then Kaiserslautern.

Signed for Bradford City in November 1996, and he is still regarded as one of the best keepers the Bantams have ever had despite joining Middlesbrough just four months later.

He is a commanding figure and an excellent shot-stopper who cost Boro £1.5million.

The Australian international lost his place in the side to Mark Crossley in the 2001/02 campaign after needing surgery on a hernia problem, and it was something of a surprise when he won his place back as soon as he was fit.

By the start of the 2002/03 season. Schwarzer had played 192 games for the Teesside club.
