Postma was signed by Aston Villa from Dutch outfit De Graafschap in May 2002 a matter of days after the season had finished.
With veteran goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel heading for Manchester City, manager Graham Taylor knew he had to find competition for Finnish stopper Peter Enckelman. Postma cost the Villans £1.5million - and he signed a four-year contract.
Previously with FC Utrecht, Postma is a giant between to sticks but was told he would start the season as number two to Enckelman.
Taylor told the club's official website: 'Stefan is a player that both myself and the staff have looked at regularly. He's a very big imposing player.
'He'll be coming in to work alongside Peter Enckelman, who’s taken his opportunity to be No1 literally with both hands. I would anticipate Peter beginning the season in possession of the shirt, as Stefan becomes accustomed to the English game.
'As with any foreign player coming into this country, he'll need a little time to adjust to his new surroundings, but I know he'll prove to be an outstanding acquisition.'
