Profile:

Hardly needs any introduction as one of the most controversial figures of recent footballing times, but has started to once again show how well he can play after being signed by Leicester from Aston Villa.

At his best, he can be almost unplayable - massive pace, power and speed of thought, a ferocious shot and the ability to steam past defenders as though they did not exist. Also a fine header of the ball, his all-round skill should be able to guarantee him further glory.

His best top flight form so far came during his spell at Nottingham Forest, earning him a multi-million pound move to Liverpool and then to Villa.

His troubled career took a new down-turn when he fell out with new Foxes boss Peter Taylor in September 2000. He was immediately put on the transfer list after Stan refused to agree to being released from his contract.

He then had a big bust up with fellow striker Trevor Benjamin during a reserve game after Collymore claimed Benjamin was not running for his through balls.

Bradford City then took a gamble on the striker by taking him on a free transfer in October 2000. He made 11 Premiership appearances for the Foxes, four as a sub, and scored five goals - including a stunning hat-trick against Sunderland.

Made his debut for Bradford in a 1-1 draw with Leeds - and scored a dramatic overhead kick to give his side the lead.

Then suffered a setback after the FA used video evidence to hand him a three-game ban for stamping on Everton's Paul Gascoinge during his Leicester days.

Collymore took another blow to his career after Bradford sacked the man who brought him to Valley Parade - Chris Hutchings. New boss Jim Jefferies had no intention of keeping him and he was told he was surplus to requirements.

That led to interest from several parties, but eventually it was Real Ovideo who came in to clinch his signature.

The deal was originally to be worth £500,000, but Bradford waved the fee so the deal could go through before the Spanish transfer window closed at the end of January 2001.

Collymore said: 'The Spanish League is a big League with big teams and some of the best players in the world and playing in it is something I am really looking forward to.'

However, things again went wrong for Stan. After just two substitute appearances boss Raddy Antic told the player to get fit.

Collymore made only a handful of additional sub appearances before he announed his retirement from the game, aged only 30.

His ex-managers all agreed that it was a huge waste of talent. It's hard to disagree as the curtain was drawn on one of the most amazing careers of recent times.
