Cotterill: No Grimandi deal

Stoke manager Steve Cotterill has slammed suggestions from Gilles Grimandi that the Potters have tried to sign him.

The former Arsenal defender left Highbury in the summer, and Stoke are one of a number of clubs to have been linked with him.

However Cotterill says talk of his club having made an offer to the Frenchman are wide of the mark, although he did admit he made a tentative initial enquiry.

Cotterill said: `There's no way we got as far as putting an offer to him - never mind him turning the offer down. We simply spoke to him to see what he was doing.

`We may have eventually made an offer if he'd wanted to come and train and possibly play for us, but talks never got that far,' he told the Stoke Sentinel.
