Delaney: Welshman has 2-and-a-half years left on current Villa deal (GaryMPrior/Allsport) |
But the club are insisting that there will be no problem in sorting out a new
deal with the Wales international.
Delaney's current contract runs until the summer of 2004 but he is one of the
lower-paid players at the club and previous Villa manager John Gregory had
initiated plans to give him an improved deal.
The right-back, who was signed from Cardiff three years ago, has already
rejected one offer.
But he has been reassured by new boss Graham Taylor that the matter will be
sorted out favourably.
Delaney confirmed: 'The manager told me to leave things to him and he would
get something sorted. He spoke to me as soon as he took charge.'
Villa deputy chief executive and financial director Mark Ansell insisted:
'There is no dispute over a new deal for Mark Delaney.
'Mark still has two and a half years to run on his contract and it was us who
initiated talks to get him a new one.'
