Bristol City went behind to a Marcus Bignot strike after just 27 seconds but hit back to claim a 3-2 victory in the 87th Bristol league derby.
Although Keith Millen and Mickey Bell both went close they had to wait for the second half and the arrival of Peter Beadle to get the equaliser.
The ex-Rovers striker came on for the injured Lee Peacock after 49 minutes and immediately gave Millen the chance to scramble in the equaliser.
Six minutes later Beadle headed City in front and they began to pour forward with new-found belief.
City's attacking style paid off as Tony Thorpe made it 3-1 with a header in the 74th minute after a surging run and teasing cross from Matt Hill.
But four minutes later Martin Cameron lashed in a pass from Lewis Hogg to set up a storming finish.
