OPORTO, Portugal, Oct 31 (Reuters) - A first-half goal by Brazilian striker Jesus Pena was just enough to give Porto a place in the second phase of the Champions League on Wednesday as they beat Norway's Rosenborg 1-0.

The win secured the runners-up spot for the former European Champions in group E behind Italy's Juventus, who had already won the group before losing 4-3 to Celtic in Glasgow.

'Justice was done,' said Porto coach Octavio Machado.

Porto had 14 shots on the Rosenborg goal in the first half prompting Machado to add: 'We created a series of chances for goals but there was a great keeper there.'

Despite the pressure on Rosenberg goalkeeper Arni Arason, Porto wasted several chances to score until the 36th minute when Pena, unmarked inside the box, scored with a header from a left-wing cross from compatriot Clayton Cruz.

Porto slowed down in the second half and the Norwegian side began to create chances but they failed to capitalise.

On 50 minutes Harald Brattbakk had an opportunity to equalise but the quick reactions of Porto goalkeeper Paulo Santos, who was making his Champions League debut, kept out the the Norwegian striker's close-range effort.

An injury-time mistake by Santos gave Rosenberg defender Bent Johnsen a golden opportunity to score, but he fired just wide of the right-hand post.

'I'm ashamed at what happened in the first half,' said Rosenborg coach Nils Arne Eggen.

'Porto were much better than us. There's no comparison, but you mustn't forget we're at the end of our season.'
